Your new role
We’re looking for a motivated and hands-on Cutting Team Leader to join our production team at DFS. In this key leadership role you’ll be responsible for managing, coaching, and developing a high-performing team within our cutting department.
You’ll play a vital part in driving performance and continuous improvement, setting clear objectives and KPIs that align with our wider business goals. A big part of your role will be ensuring your team is cross-skilled and flexible, so high standards are maintained at all times
Location: Birchwood Way, Somercotes, DE55 4QQ
Hours: Full Time. 39 hours per week.
Shifts: This role will operate over two alternating shifts:
AM: Mon - Thu 06:00 - 13:50 Fri - 06:00 - 14:05
PM: Mon - Wed 14:00 - 12:20, Thu - 14:00 - 12:05
What you'll be doing
- Managing absence and performance within the section
- Lead, develop and coach staff to ensure KPIs are hit
- Succession planning
- Ensure that the Company’s Health & Safety Policies are rigorously applied, as is Compliance with the Company’s policies and directives
- Ensure that the cutting plans are maximised within the set parameters, to ensure the section achieves the production targets without compromising load order
- Maximise the cutting time and ensure the cutting utilisation stays above 50%
- Minimise wastage, working within the 5% framework as a minimum
- Use a proactive approach to manage the workload and staff levels
- Manage the workload of the fabric stores to ensure fabric is controlled correctly, issued at the correct time, booked back in at the correct time and ensure that all stock is accounted for
- Ensuring that wages are correct and truly representative of the section performance
- Manage, coach and develop a high performing team that meets agreed objectives, delivers results and looks to continuously improve
- Ensure the team are cross skilled, so that holidays and absence does not impact on the quality of or delivery of any standard work
- Set departmental objectives/KPI’s which align to the overall business strategic goals

- Consistent and clear communication with all other TL’s & sections
- 5 years experience in a similar role (Desirable not essential)
- Experience in managing teams
