About the role:

At DFS the Fabric Store Person is responsible for receiving, storing, and issuing fabrics and associated materials to support the production of high-quality upholstered furniture. The role ensures that stock is accurately controlled, materials are handled with care, and production teams receive the correct fabrics in a timely manner to maintain efficient manufacturing operations. 

Working closely with the Warehouse, Cutting, and Production teams, the Fabric Store Person helps maintain stock accuracy, minimise waste, and ensure a safe and organised working environment.

  • Working hours : Rotating  Early & Late shifts

What you'll be doing:

  • Receiving,  inspecting, and booking in fabric deliveries, reporting any shortages or quality issues.

  • Storing  fabrics and materials safely and in accordance with company procedures.

  • Picking, preparing, and issuing fabrics to the Cutting and Production departments in line with production schedules.

  • Maintaining  accurate stock records and supporting regular stock counts and inventory checks.

  • Ensuring fabrics are correctly identified, labelled, and stored to prevent damage or contamination.

  • Rotating stock where appropriate and monitoring inventory levels, highlighting potential shortages.

  • Safely operating  material handling equipment, where authorised.

  • Maintaining  high standards of housekeeping within the fabric store, ensuring work areas remain clean, organised, and safe.

  • Working closely with colleagues across Manufacturing, Warehouse, and Planning to ensure materials are available when required.

  • Following  all Health & Safety policies and safe manual handling procedures.

  • Supporting  continuous improvement initiatives to improve stock control, efficiency, and material flow.

  • Assisting  with other warehouse or store duties as required to support business needs.

The role is for you if you have …

  • Experience working in a store, warehouse, or manufacturing environment.

  • Good attention to detail and accuracy when handling stock.

  • Ability to organise and prioritise workloads effectively.

  • Good  IT skills and experience using stock management systems (desirable).

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with production 

  • Understanding of stock control and inventory processes.

  • Ability to perform manual handling tasks safely.

  • Forklift Truck (FLT) licence (desirable, if applicable).

  • A proactive approach with a strong focus on quality, accuracy, and teamwork..
